Early Explorers - "What If?"

How do you think your lives today would be different had Giovanni da Verrazano claimed all of the lands he explored for the French (go to your notes for a reminder if needed)? Give reasons and examples that support your point-of-view.

(Remember to use the QUASI format, post as "Anonymous" and include your first name, last initial, and period at the bottom of your response.)

  1. I think if Giovanni de Verrazano had claimed this land for France it would be different now. We would probably be speaking French because today in some parts of Canada they speak French. Also we may not have recieved the Statue of Liberty being that France may not give other France a present. Also we may not have fought in the American Revolution because we wouldn't be part of England.

  2. Today in the Alternate History

    Bon jour.

If Giovanni da Verrazano claimed the land he found for France, many things would be different. For example, I walk into school and say "Bon jour" to my teachers. That's why I said bonjour in my Alternate History. We'd all speak French. We'd have won our independence from France. We're basically what some of Canada is today. In my opinion,we'd be very different and I will have to say Bon Jour when I say hello to you.

  4. I think if Giovani de Verrazano claimed his explored land for the French we would have a French influence in our region. Also, instead of learning about American history we may have to learn about French history. In addition most of use would be in our ancestors county with different families. This is how our lives would change if we were French.

  5. If Giovani de Verrazano had claimed all of this land for France, we would be under heavy French influence. We would be speaking French and we would be influenced under French culture. This area might even be part of French -Canada! Parts Like Montreal and Quebec

  6. We think that if Giovani de Verrazano had claimed all of this land for France, we would be speeking French and our social studies lessons would be on French history not American history. Those would be two things that would change our lives

  8. I think that if Giovani de Verrazano claimed the east coast of the U.S east coast or all of the U.S would be speaking french and we would have never had the revolutionary war or the civil war and might have different laws and other goverment and political systems might be different also and the way of life here would be also different.

  9. I think if Giovanni de Verrazano had claimed this land for France it would be different now. We would probably be speaking French. Right now we would not be learning about american history we would be learning about french history. Like Jack K said we probably would not have the Statue Of Liberty because that would be like Washing D.C giving the white house to Montana.

What I am trying to say is that with out Giovani de Verrazano our life would be very different.
