HOW on earth did we win the Revolution??

In the first years of the American Revolution, it seemed unlikely that the shabby group of men calling themselves the Continental Army could ever beat the world's greatest army (England.)  After learning about the war, explain how the colonists did, in fact, succeed in their goal of defeating England and becoming an independent nation.

  1. After learning about the war, I think the how the colonist won the war was mostly because they had a cause to fight for. Why would they fight if they had nothing to fight for? After a few battles the colonists realized that indeed they can win the war. Becoming their own nation happen. This made more and more soldiers join for the Patriot's side in hopes of becoming their own Country. The harsh and pitiful war would be worth their freedom.

    1. I think the colonists won the war because they were fighting for their freedom and Washington kept their morale up. It was also because the British marched to Philadelphia instead of Saratoga witch made the colonists able to win the battle. That led to the french sending supplies and reinforcements to the american soldiers.

  3. There were many ways how the Americans won the Revolutionary War. The first is the Guerrilla tactic. This was a sneak attack the British were unprepared for. Also the Americans knew the land but the British didn't. Finally, the colonists were fighting for a cause and were willing to die for it. That’s how the Americans beat the strongest army in the world.

Also, the colonists had a reason to fight for. Another thing that the colonists had, were the guerilla allies (France and Spain). The British fought in a different warfare.

  8. After learning about the war, I think that we won the war because we were very determined to have our freedom. The British weren't determined to get anything done, they already had their own rights, and they were okay with them. We also had different ways to fight, we were taught well by the Indians on how to plan a sneak attack on the British. We had so many resources that the British didn't have and that's how we won.

  10. The American Revolution had many components to our success. I think that the reason we came out on the top is because of our advantages. We were fighting on home land, so we knew the grounds better than the British. We also were very good, thanks to George Washinton, at our new found form of war that we learned from watching the indians, Guerrila Warfare. These attacks always took the British soldiers by surprise. Another reason that heped to win was our allies, Englands enemies, France and Spain. Although, we were just shabby farmers we had something that the British didn't. Sure the British much more money than us to pay for supplies and thing, but we were fighting for our people. The red coats were just fighting another war, we had more. It's almost equivalent to fighting for our lives. We wanted something and that's what gave us our drive and determination. I think that anyone would be surprised by the outcome, but I know that either way we were going to try because we as Americans will never just hand someone the satisfaction of our failure. The American Revolution was a great point in our history because it was able to boost our confidence and give us the strength needed to win the war and unite as one.

  11. I think there were many reasons that the Americans won the Revolution. First off we had some of the Indians on our side because they did not like the British because they took some of their land and killed a lot of their kind. Second we had the French on our side because they flat out hated the British from previous situations and previous battles. We also had a German general (he was actually a captain) and he helped train George Washington's army. Finally at the last battle of Yorktown the French helped out by sending 28 warships to help the Americans. For previous battles the French have also sent supplies.(Guns food tea etc...).

This cause lots of of the troops to go haywire.Lots of them got furious becuse they were doing things that they really weren't suppose to. Most of the red coats were just fighting but us americans had more fights. We had wanted somthing they red coats didn't have (determination). Because of that we had then won the revolutionary war. It felt great to finally win a war!!! Nick R

  14. The colonists won the war because they were determined and hard working. They had many people help them out and donate money and supplies. The British didn't have a real reason to be fighting. They were just told to fight. The French helped the Americans and when the ships arrived the British realized that they couldn't beat both of them. We were familiar with the land and that helped a lot. The British were coming into a place they have never seen. It was easier for the colonists to find short cuts and sneak attack on the British. The American Revolution was a surprising and amazing victory.

  15. I believe there were many reasons for us winning the war. One of them was the guerrilla fighting. This was very effective because the British did not know how to counter act this. Another reason is that the British had no clue which way led them to the way they wanted to go. But the Americans knew all the ways to get to where ever they want to go. The last reason is that in Yorktown we got lots of help from the French Navy. This was so effective because the British saw that almost all the French Navy showed up to the battle.

  16. The Patriots succeeded in their goal of defeating England and becoming an independent nation. The Patriots knew the land, they knew all the back roads and routes. The British didn't know the land well. Since we knew the land well the guerrilla fighters knew good places to hide so they could ambush the British. Also, the Patriots had a purpose for fighting. They were fighting to gain independence while England really had no purpose for fighting. Whenever things got bad they'd still fight on because they were willing to do anything to gain our independence. The British were far from home and just wanted to get the war over with, so they could go back to their families. Finally, the Patriots had the French on their side. After, the 28 French ships arrived in the Chesapeake Bay the British knew it was over, they couldn't fight the Americans and the French. I wonder what it would be like here today if the British won the war.

We also had Guerrilla Warfare, which we learned from the Indians. But the best at it was Francis Marion. Also known as Swamp Fox. Swamp Fox would hide in the swamps then attack the British and stole from them. He would also make them use materials. I wish that I could meet Swamp Fox and learn from him.

My last reason the Americans won the war is because they allied with the French. If they did not side together the results of the battle of York town could have been different. We wanted to win because if we did, we would have received independence. That was our motivation. In addition, we were fighting close to home and we knew the land. This gave us an advantage over the British, who were far from home and unfamiliar with the land, because we could sneak up on them and attack. Finally, I don't think we would have won without our alliance with the French. The British surrendered when the French ships arrived during the Battle of Yorktown.
