Declaration of Independence

The signers of the Declaration of Independence were committing TREASON when they signed this important document.  The punishment for treason was death.  Why do you think the delegates were willing to risk their lives to become an independent nation?  Would you have done the same thing?  Why or why not?

  1. I think the delegates were willing to risk there lives because they wanted to be famous. For example, if they didnt we wouldnt be talking about them today. They also risked there lives because they didnt want to live with England anymore so if they lost they rather get killed instead of the red coats in the colony's bothering them and getting in there way. I wouldve signed the Declaration of Independnce because i think i wouldnt want the redcoats in my land.

  3. I believe that the delegates were committing treason for a strong, excellent reason. They risked their lives for their new nation, known as the United States of America. They wanted war with King GeorgeIII of England. They fought for freedom, and to end the Revolution. They protected and standed up for their own commonwealth. that could be the most important reason why that they committed a foul treason

  4. The colonists no longer liked the idea of following England. They wanted Freedom. They wanted Independence. They would do what ever it took to become free. No matter the cost. Would I have signed the Declaration. Yes I would have. Because I would rather die knowing that I tried to make this country free, than live and know I did noting.

  5. The colonists risked their lives on this important part of history because they where tiered of a distant country over the seas miles away controlling them. They did want independence and to show off a little by saying "Hey king come on down to the americas i dare you other wise you lose it."They later got recognized for doing a deed and won the name the founding fathers. Would i have signed the Declaration? It depends on my neutral perspective on things. England was controlling the americas with taxes but they did provide support from the indians. Then again it was America that ended slavery before england after we broke away and make us a free nation. The side i would have to choose is the America's because not only did we signed it, but we also showed that we where powerful from the years to come after the signing(like freeing slaves). Overall i believe that the delegates had a strong with and committed to it to make it reality though anger and mischief (Pearl harbor).

Just typing this for fun for discussion and further research Good luck with learning this fun subject.

  7. The colonists where willing to risk their lives to sign the Deceleration of Independence for many reasons. One of them was that they want to give freedom to their home country and all the other men that worked so hard to get the colonies to were they where. Another reason is that the colonists did not like the British because they did not treat the colonists with respect. The last reason that the colonists signed the Declaration of Independence even though they were committing treason was that they wanted their own county were they would not have to follow the English rule.

  8. The colonists risked their lives for freedom. even if they had to die, they didnt care because it was for a good cause. They knew that later in history that it would make a huge difference to many people. Now because of their actions, were have a free country and thats America.

  9. I can see why the delelgates would risk their lives. For instance, freedom is a wonderful reward that is worth as much as life. In addition, I would've done the same thing. Who wouldn't die for freedom? So many people have done it before, and some have succeeded.

  10. I think the delegates would risk their lives because they were doing it for independance. And if they really wanted independance, which they did then they would do anything. Yes, I would do the same because like said before if I really wanted to be independant from Britian I would do anything to get my wish. Because if you work hard you'll always get your way.

  11. I think the delegates would risk their lives. i think they would because they would want freedom and independence. I would even do that for independence and freedom. another reason they probably wanted freedom and independence is for their religion because the British would not let them to do their own religious.

  13. The signers of the Declaration of Independence were willing to risk their lives to become an independent nation because, they were Delegates and they love their country. The people who founded this country would give their heart and soul to give the country they love, freedom and independence. Even if they have to die for it or commit treason. Theses people who signed the Declaration were looking for freedom and independence from mother England.

  15. I think that they made the rite choice to make this an independent nation. If we made our own decisions like we do today the government would not be busy, as if we were not an independent nation the we would have to ask people that work for the government to ask if we can go here or there. Some nations are not independent so they probably would have to ask if they can go to where ever they wanted before they made an action. Some people even hang themselves just to fight for independence.

  18. I think the delegates were willing to risk their lives to become an independent nation because they didn't want to be apart of England. The Patriots wanted independence and they were willing to die fighting for it.The were tired of King George III bossing them around all the time. If I was a delegate I would have made the same decision. I would want to be free from England and if I would be willing to die trying to get independence. Also, I don't like England's form of government, nobody gets a say in who rules their country.

  20. i think the delegates were willing to risk their lives for independence because they had 2 choices. 1. Live the rest or your life under the law and power of England.

I would have chosen 2 (independence) because I would want to stuff I wouldn't get to if King George was still controlling me. I like being free.

  21. I believe that the men signed the Delectation of Independence, willing to die because they wanted to be free. The men thought that they should not have to pay outrageous taxes. But most of all they wanted to be free of the mother country, and take care of themselves. So to do this they wrote the Deceleration. I wonder how many other countries wrote Declarations.

  23. I belive that they put the treason punishment as death is because of many reasons. One reason why is because they were deticated to their country. Another reason is that theyb were proving how badly they wanted this and were not afraid if they died for their ciuntry. Lastly, I belive that they put death as a treason punishment is because that they were not ashamed of their love for the country. Yes, i would also pay for death for my own country. I love my country too much to see it be owned by someone else.

This is because they saw that there could be a blossomy in the country just waiting to bloom.if I was on of the delegates i would have done the same thing. There is no price for freedom you must earn it so if it meant death then i would take it. In Patrick Henry's words "Give me liberty or Give me Death." 27. Considering the conditions and the American's chances of winning the war, I would honestly not sign the declaration. As mentioned, it does represent treason, and I'm pretty sure that I wouldn't want to risk my life for a nation that has a very slim chance, at that moment, of winning the revolution. I think that the delgates signed the Declaration of Independence because they had confidence that we had a chance of winning because we were fighting for our own liberty and although our army would be made up mostly of farmers and your average colonists, with some help, we could win. This is because when you're fighting with determination, you'll fight until the very end and I think the delgates were willing to do that. They felt that it was their responsibility to create a free nation, one that could make their own choices. Even if one of the consequences were death, they were willing to risk it because they needed to do what they felt was right for the colonies and for the people who want a fresh start.

  42. I believe the reason why the delegates decided to risk their lives was to be recognized, I believe they didn't want to remove them selves from the British Government. I think they just wanted to be apart of parliament. When they noticed that they weren't going to be apart of Parliament, that is when the Declaration of Independence was signed. 43. I think that the Delegates who signed the Declaration of Independence were willing to risk their lives for our freedom. One reason they did this is because they wanted the Colonists to be free from England, and not demanded what they must do. For example England would tax us on paper items, have Redcoats patrol the streets, and put us in charge of a English General. This is why the Delegates felt so compelled to commit the crime of treason risking their lives for us to be free of England, and have equal rights.

  50. I think that the delegates risk their lives for a Independent Country because, King George wanted them to be part of the Church of England or go to jail, being so committed to their religion they came to the New World for freedom. They finally got away from England, or as they think. They might be on a new piece of land but, they were still being bossed around by King George. So they could be in their own country, no matter what religion you are, they fought for their lives cause this is what they wanted more then anything. Even if they risk their lives and lost, some were fighting for freedom for not just themselves, but their children too. If I were a colonist back then I would fight hard for my freedom. Their choices were maybe dead in heaven, or living being controlled by a bully, that is King George.
