  1. I would tell them to over prepare because you never now what can happen there there could have been Indians that killed them or dises or even natural causes so they should of prepared them selves better than everyone would so you can expect the unexpected.

  2. The advice I would give the new settlers is that they should bring supplies that could hold and not whither away after 2 months. They should bring these supplies so they can build well structured huts or houses because children are there so they need something to keep them safe and secure. Also to stay away from something as bad as being attacked by Indians you should try to share some of your stuff with them.

  3. I would give them advice about staying save and making sure they had all of their supplies. Because if they did not have enough supplies they are bound to die out. Especially if they are not able to grow food on their own.

  4. The advice that I would give to the settlers is to be very careful and wise with what type of supply's they are bringing. I would let them know that they should bring enough food and resources to last them for the summer and winter. Although some people want to find gold and riches, it is more important to have the resources to help them survive. I would also tell them to be very careful with communicating with the Indians because they can end up being attacked or killed. I would remind them to make peace with the Indians and not attack them. Lastly, I would let them know what parts of the land seem to be safe and what parts they should settle near.

    1. I agree with Julie because shes right that they did not bring enough food and suplies to last them through the winter and I would also advise them to do that. And what she said about the indians I would not have even thought of but it is a really good idea.

  5. I would give them survival advice. I would tell them to learn to hunt, fish, and farm. I would also tell them to learn how to make a fire and shelter. I would show them the basic ways to prevent sickness. I would also show them how to make clothing if they didn't already know how to do that. If they learned how to do these things then maybe the settlers wouldn't have died if starvation and sickness was a the reason of their dissaparence.

  6. I would have told the colonists of roanoke to make friends with the indians so tha they would have allies if they ever got in the war. I would tell them this so that they would be more protected and to be more open to other cultures.

  7. I would have told them to stay with John White and sail to England with him. A few of the theories that describes why Roanoke fell was because hostile Natives attacked the colony, friendly Natives took in the colonists, the colonists were attacked by Spaniards, the colonists tried to sail back to England but got lost, and so on. Because we don't know how the colony fell, we don't know for sure what to tell them. Although if all of the settlers left with John White, and nobody watched the settlement, leaving the settlement behind and at risk is better than leaving the settlement AND the people behind. 8. Some advice I would of given to the colonists of Roanoke would be to train on how to use weapons and be careful with their surroundings. That way they could survive of they were ever attacked and needed to defend themselves. One of the theories of what happened to the colonists were that they were attacked and left the colony to blend in with the friendly Indians. If they really did blend in with the Indians I would have also told them to find John White and let him know where they all were.

  9. I would tell them to at least practice some things to help them prepare them for anything that could be a problem to them like if a wild animal attacks them they would be able to at least defend themselves from them.

  11. I wouldn't really tell them anything to help succeed because John left and without notice couldn't return, so we don't know what happened. Although I if they were attacked by the natives, I would have told them to leave the colony, or at least fortify the area, and train people for the attack.

  12. I would give them advice about growing food. The English hadn't really been exposed to living on their own. If they knew how to grow food they could survive longer, and feed more people. They could also make money by shipping food back to England, and possibly buy supplies for their colony. Growing food would help them survive in many different ways.

  15. The advice that I would give them is that you need to bring extra supplies. Things like food, water, and materials to build things to have shelter. If the Indians were not there to help us in the first place then we would of all died. The Indians helped us by giving us corn and bread. You need to prepare as if there's not going to be anything there to help you. Matthew C 2-3 B

  16. The advice that I would give them is to bring mere supplies than they thought they needed such as hunting supplies, food, and water. Also, they should use their supplies very carefully. I would tell them to travel with the nice natives because that was their best option.

  17. The advice that I would give the colonialists of Roanoke is to come prepared, and bring more food and water. In addition, don't leave the camp because then people will get worried, and think you may have died or left. To add, I would bring more people, and use your supplies wisely because you can't just randomly go back.

  18. I believe that what happened to Roanoke was that there was more than one thing. There are many theories such as a hurricane, migration, and being under attack. I believe that it was a little bit of all those things. I believe this because there is lots of evidence for each thing.

  19. The advice that I would give them is to bring more than what they would need. Such as food, first aid kit, blankets, and extra clothing. They should bring the first aid kit because if they get a cut then it could get infected and they could get sick from that.

  20. The advice I would give to the settlers is too over prepare with water and food so if worst comes to worst they can live a while on the extra food. Also I would train the settlers so that if they face the Indians they are ready. I don' think that the settlers knew there were Indians there so they were vulnerable and unprepared. If they had trained and brought food with them then they would be prepared for the worst and survive a lot longer.

  21. The advice that I would offer to settlers is to prepare for several years of surviving on your own in conditions that would absolutely undesirable. Pack and store extra water extra food and means of growing or producing your own food.

  22. The advice I would give them is to brig more supplies. If they had more food and hunting supplies they could have their own food for a while and even have hunting equipment so that they could hunt for years to come.

  24. If I could give the settlers of Roanoke advice to help them survive the “New World” I would tell them that you have to make sure that you are ready for the winter because as seen with the Pilgrims, the winters are very harsh in the “New World.” I would tell them to make sure they have sturdy shelter, plenty of food and water, and warm clothes to keep them warm. I would also want them to know that the winter usually last at least three months. So that means that they would have to be prepared for three months of cold and snow.

  25. Some advice that I would give to the settlers is that just in case something bad happens you should always have water and food supplied with them, so they won't die of starvation. Also to prepare to fight, they need to be trained in case they get into a fight with other people and they won't suffer from it. Also to have extra clothing and blankets because they don't know if its going to be cold and they don't want to get sick.

  26. I would have attempted to befriend the Indians because thy could have helped the colonists farm hunt and live in the new world. The colonists didn't know anything about how to farm or live during the winter since it snowed and stopped food production. Mot of the men died from hunger or attacks by the Indians so they definitely could have help each other out in the new world.

  27. The advice that I would give to the settlers is that some should make tools and hunt while other are making fires and building shelters. ALso maybe Indanies could have lived there before so maybe there would be diseases in the area so they should eat good food so their body could fight off disease quicker. Also they should store food when it get close to winter so the food would not get stale.

  28. If I could tell the settlers something , it would be to bring more supplies, and try to make friends with Indians. I would tell them that they should bring tons of medicine, and food and seeds that could last them several months. I would also tell them to make peace with the Natives so they could grow more food and be provided with clothes and shelter.

  29. The advice that I would have given the settlers would be to protect their lands more and leave less remains being. Someone must of came to their settlement and left being clues of what they did. In my opinion, if they would have teamed up with the natives, they would have had a better chance of still having a settlement when they came back.

  31. The advice that I would give the colonists of Roanoke is next time bring more food supplies. In the Starving Time of 1908-1909 more than half of the colonists died during that winter which is not good. Next time if they would come they should bring enough food to last a couple winters or bring more ships to store a lot of food and cooking supplies.

  33. If I could tell the settlers of Roanoke something, I would tell them that they should bring many coats and blankets. Also, that it would be smart to build their houses with insulators like mud and leaves, because then their houses would be much warmer and winter winds would not break through the gaps that would be inevitable with wood houses. They should also have brought more food items that wouldn't go bad fast, like bread, so that they would not starve. In addition, it would be a good idea to utilize the Mayflower ship that they came on for shelter before they can finish building their houses. So that they can do this, they should insulate below-decks so that it is not cold during the winter months. Another thing I would tell them is to seek out the Indians sooner so that the first winter they spend there is not so catastrophic.

  34. If I were to help the settlers of Roanoke I would show them how you can build a fort. I would also show them how to farm so they can eat food. I would teach them that not everyone is friendly and to be careful who you talk too. I would tell them to bring blankets for warmth, and to bring more food to survive the harsh winter. I would tell them to be friendly to the Indians.

Also i would of told them how to plant seed's and how to grow fruits and vegetables, just in case if they did not have anymore supply of food. Also i would of gave them the advice to bring warm clothes for their trip for the winter, just so there would be less death's during the winter.

  37. Some advice that I would give to the settlers is to bring lots of food and water and other useful supplies. This would be a smart move because the more food they had the better chance there was that there would be no starvation or anything. Also they need other supplies such as different clothes because you never know what the climate would be like.

  38. The advice that I would give to the settlers is to never be too prepared. I would tell them to bring as much supplies as possible, especially food and water. By doing this they could last longer and have more time to grow and hunt their own food while also looking for clean water. Unfortunately this may not help because if there is not enough room on the ship they may not bring enough. Than they wouldn’t have enough time to grow their own food and all starve.

  40. If I could give the settlers of the Roanoke colony advice, it would be to pack and restock as much supplies as possible. I would tell them this because if they already have a lot of things packed, the colony would barely ever need to restock; and if they don't need to restock then they don't need to separate. Not only that, but if they have a lot of supplies, they don't need to worry about running out or not having enough.

  47. If I was going to give the Roanoke colony advice on how to survive the main thing I would focus on is food sources and weapons. When telling them about food I would tell them that you can get meat from fish and roaming wild animals, or fruit that you can grow in the ground and that you can find in trees or vines. When talking to them about weapons I would tell them that this is how you can catch animals for food or clothing, and this is also how you can fend agents people.

  51. I would tell the people who lived in Roanoke to be very prepared for everything. I would do this because we still dont know what happened to the whole colonization, they could have starved or sick, or killed by locals. First I would tell them to bring lots of seeds and other foods to grow crops very well so they cant starve. also to learn how to hunt well. Then I would tell them to make quilts and well built houses so they couldnt get diseases from the cold. After that I would tell them to start making weapons and have a well built army and well built barriers to keep indians out. Lastly I would inform John White to not leave the colony so we could find out what really happened
