Patriot or Loyalist?
After learning about the risks and the extreme, and sometimes violent, actions the Patriots took against their mother country, do you honestly feel you would have joined their cause? OR would have rather been a LOYALIST, benefiting from the rewards of the crown and enjoying good food and fancy parties? EXPLAIN using textual evidence!!

I would have to join the Patriots side of the war. I think that they were right when they were fighting for freedom. I would not want to be taxed by the King. He lives over 3000 miles away. That is what side I would want to join.

I would definitely joined the Patriots side of the war because I honestly felt like the British deserved it. We had moved here to get away from the King and his rules. But what does he do? I follows us! I would be angry too, and I would also do anything I could to get the Red Coats to go away like the colonists.

I would have been on the side of the patriots. Even though they did go to extreme cases, such as taring and feathering loyalists, the King deserved it for what he did. Many had come to America to be free of the king, yet instead they get taxed heavily by him. The king enraged the colonist through many unfair acts. I would have rebeled if I were there, too.

I would have been on the patriots side. I would have been mad at England for taxing us and putting rules on us from the other side of the sea. However I would not have done the violent acts the sons of Liberty did to the red coats. They did terrible things. For example they did the act tar and feathering. This is when they pour hot tar on you and put feathers on it while its wet. I would never do that. I would have been mad at the English, however not mad enough to do harmful things. In the packet we read in class, it talks about the bad things the sons of liberty did to the redcoats. I would have held nonviolent protests. I wonder if the sons of liberty did anything worse to the redcoats than tar and feathering.

I would have been on the patriots side because I after the French and Indian War England was in debt.I would like to stick with my country and land that I'm living on. I wouldn't want to go against the land live on. I would support it.Also the king had been very cruel to us. He started taxing us for little things. We basically had no freedom from him.

If I lived in the time and had to decided between being a patriot or a loyalist I would be a patriot. The acts done by the king were unexcusable. First he didn’t let us claim the land we had previously won, then he taxed us without representation. When we began to resist he sent soldiers to watch us, then says we have to provide housing for said soldiers, meanwhile they are stealing our jobs. The things we had to put up with by the king are ridiculous. I don’t understand how the loyalists can support a man who does such things and treats us has kids.

I would want to join the Patriots side because they deserve freedom. How did the loyalists like the Kings ways. I mean the people moved away so they could have freedom, but no the King had to rule them from far away. The patriots rioted and protested. Did the king ever get the memo. Couldn't he tell that they did not like his ways.

Based on my knowledge of the Patriots vs. Loyalists, I would still pick the Patriots side. Considering that the king was trying to control us and was passing laws that didn't benefit us at all, I would pick the Patriots side. Even though they had some intolerable acts like the burning of houses, they were just fighting for there country. In conclusion, I would pick this side because they show great belief in what's right to them.

I would join the Patriots side in the war. This is because the king of England lives all the way across the Atlantic ocean. It was unfair that colonists had to pay taxes to him even though they had no say in the government. Although the British army was frightening, I would have fought for freedom in America.

I would have chosen the life of a Patriot for many reasons. Reasons are like that we live our lives like rebels. Rebellion is fun because we can get in trouble but we don't get caught and we send a message to the king saying that we can't take this anymore with all the taxes and all the loyalists coming and taking everything like its their land we've had enough. Therefore i'd be with our country and fight against the king

I would rather be a patriot then to be a loyalist because the British kept us from doing most of the things that the patriots wanted to do, like the proclamation of 1763, stamp act, quartering act, and so forth. Loyalists were agreeing with british government and helping them make the patriots lives more harder and challenging. So I would go with the Patriots all the way.

After learning about the risks and the extreme, and sometimes violent, actions the Patriots took, I think I would join the patriots side. I think that the patriots deserve freedom. I also wouldn't want to not have a say in my government. I do think that some of the things the patriots did were a little much, but those would be the things I wouldn't go into the town square to watch.

If I had a choice I would choice the patriot side. I would be extremely mad if I found out that England was taxing up and they aren't even near us. Since I would be a patriot they was many horrible things we done that I would not take part in. They put the tar and feathers on the townspeople and made them run around looking like that! How embarrassing? If I was a patriot during that time I would tell the other patriots to stop doing that! I would make sure we weren't that violent.

After learning about the patriots and loyalists,I believe the Patriots were right. If I had to join one side it would definitely be the patriots. Being taxed from all the way in britain isn't right. They are almost 3000 miles apart and King George still ruled the colonists. King George used the colonists as a way to get money because he was in debt. He spent all of his money on soldiers without thinking about the money. If he didn't go in debt then he would've started to tax. Yes, the Patriots didn't have trained soldiers at first but they believed in themselves. If i was in the war i would think “ if we loose, King George doesn't get his money. If we win we get freedom”. Freedom is what the colonists were getting at. They wanted to make their own rules not follow king Georges rules. So if i had a choice of what side to choose it would be the patriots because its unfair how King George ruled them, and they deserved their own country.

If had to pick a side in the American revolutionary war I would chose the patriots side because they were fighting for a reason and a cause. That was to become a free nation were the people run it and we live with happiness and justice. Even though we the people in the colonies were not having big parties and having fancy clothes we were fighting for our freedom and after we could do all the same things because we were a free nation and we were growing into what the United States is and will be.

I would be on the Patriot side. I believe that they had a good reason to revolt against the British, and the British already mistreated the Colonists a lot. The Colonists had to fight back against their leaders that were taxing them on many things, didn't allow them to have representation in Parliament, and didn't believe that America could survive on its own.

I would honestly join the Patriots cause because after their many attempts for freedom, they deserve to be free. The Patriots have put up with King George III long enough and should be able to run their own country. King George III had put ridiculous taxes on practical, everyday items that the colonists need. For example, taxes were placed on tea, paper, sugar, and many more items. Overall, I would join the Patriots because they deserve to live in a country governed by the people and for the people.

I would have chosen to be a Patriot opposed to a loyalist. Knowing what the Patriots did, I would not be afraid of tormenting my mother country, I would be afraid of the Patriots would do to me if I didn’t join their cause. According to History of US Patriots would sometimes burn houses of loyalists. I also agree with the Patriot’s cause so I would want to fight for my beliefs of being free from England. History of US also talks about how the King disregarded the colonist’ opinions. All the colonist wanted was to be represented in England. I would want to be apart of the movement promoting freedom. Since the protests were very extreme, I would want to be apart of the movement to try to put a more peaceful approach on the protests. The book states that patriots would tar and feather soldiers in Boston. These soldiers were doing nothing but their job, yet they got burned and embarrassed for it. There are many reason I would have joined the movement without regrets. The Patriots was the right side for me.

If I lived in the time back then and had to decide between being a patriot or a loyalist I would be a patriot. I would be a patriot because King George was really unfair and he didn't give you a say in anything. Also, you are a long distance away and being controlled by someone who doesn't even know what anyone is doing. The patriots were very violent and mean, but I wouldn't take part in doing that with them if I was in that time period. In conclusion, I would be a patriot and not support the terrible King George, but fight against him.

I would have fought for the Patriots. I would have picked that side because they were the ones fighting for a cause. They were the ones who wanted their own country, who wanted to be free from the English. The British soldiers were fighting because they had to. They were given orders by the king to come to America and fight. The Britsh already had their own country, and they had money too, but they didn't have a reason. That is why I would have fought for the Patriots, they had a reason to be out there fighting. They wanted it bad, and they all worked together to achieve that goal. I would have been proud to be called a Patriot.
