What are some of the most interesting differences between life in the Middle Ages and life today?  Are there any surprising similarities? (Post using first name, last initial and period only!)

There are many differences from Medieval times to today. One was the fact that back then, people took yearly, lords monthly, baths. We bathe/shower nearly every day. Also, another difference is that we have running water. When central government collapsed, everything else went with it, including running water. Therefore, people in Medieval times couldn't have running water. Finally, they had knights, but we have army soldiers. They had manual bows and arrows. Now, in war, we have automatic guns, and we have explosives, but they didn't. There are so many differences, too many to count!

One of the most interesting differences between the Middle Ages and life today is that people took a bath only once a year! For a lord it was once a month. Today, we take showers or baths almost every day. Also, the peasants slept in houses with straw on the bottom and with their farm animals. Today, we don’t sleep on straw and we don’t sleep with farm animals.

  3. There are a couple of interesting things then life in Middle ages than today. One is since it was the dark ages they didn't have all the stuff Rome had. They didn't have running water and they showed monthly. Also a similarity is they had knights and armer, that went and fighted. And today we have armys and soldiers that are alike the knights in some ways. For example, our armer is like a up-dated version are theirs.

  4. There are many differences from Medieval times compared to today. One was the fact that back then, the people took yearly baths. Take a shower nearly every day, maybe more. Also, another difference is that we have running water(yes). The government fell taking everything with it. everything includes running water. Therefore, people in Medieval times couldn't have running water(not even hot running water). Finally, they had knights, but we have army soldiers. They had manual bows and arrows. Now, in war, we have automatic guns, like the Thompson, and we have explosives, but they didn't. There are so many differences between the two civilizations.

  6. There are many differences from Medieval Times and life today. One difference is nobles back then were called nobles but now there just called rich people. Also back then they only took showers once a year! but now we all take showers or baths almost every day!

  7. There are plenty of changes in the way of life from medieval times to the present time. For example,in the medieval times only about two thirds of the children lived to twenty years old! But, now most children live to about 70 years of age or even older. Also in the parents in the medieval were very busy and were always working in the fields. So some of the infants were left home alone or with the care of a 2 or 3 year old. On the other hand, today a infant is never left alone as well as a 2 or 3 year old toddler. The mother watch over the kids and if the mother is busy they will hire somebody to do so. In addition, medieval times didn't have running water like Rome did before them. Today we have running water and pluming. Showers, pools, and hot tubs. Most used for pleasure and luxury.

There are a lot of changes between the way people lived in medieval times and the present day. For example, now-a-days people bathe/shower once or twice a day, but back in medieval times people bathed maybe once every two months. Also, now you are free in every way shape and form, but back then serfs, people who farmed the lord's land, were under the noble's control. Furthermore, one of the most shocking similarities between today and back then is that not everyone had to serve in the army. I think lots of rules back in medieval times were unfair and favored the upper class. These are some of the differences and shocking similarities between the present day and medieval times.

  9. There were many differences between life now and in medieval times. For example they had no technology and had to do things manually. There houses were small and dirty and ours are bigger and had more features. They had wars everyday while we have less wars. They also had no guns and arrows while we have guns. They also only had a bath once a year.

  10. There are many similarities and differences to our life and to life back in medieval times. For example today we are our own person, back then you were owned by a lord. Also back then to stay warm we'd huddle by the fire place with our farm animals, today we have heaters. A similarity is that both back then and now they had armies with soldiers, except theirs were called knights. I wonder who would want to sleep on straw that they threw leftover food on and animals left little surprises on, YUCK!

  11. The middle ages and life today are both very different. an example of this is that in the middle ages if people were bad, they were either beaten or even killed. In our life today, if people were bad, they would go to jail. In addition, most of people in the middle ages have to follow a certain religion of what people tell them to do and in life today, we can follow what ever religion we want and we do not have to let any one tell us what to do. Also there are some similarities with life right now and middle ages. for example, we both have people in charge of our country or town. Also we hunt for food.

  12. In the middle ages and life now, there are some differences. An example of this is that if people were bad in the middle ages, they would either be beaten or be put to death. In life now, of somone waS bad, they would be put to jail. In the middle ages, everything was so darken with war, death, and beats. In our life now, it was not so scary as it was in the middle ages. Believe it or not, there were similarities with the middle ages and life today. For example, they both have somebody who rules a town or a contry. In addition, we both hunt for food, but we only sometimes hunt.

  13. There are many differences from the middle ages and today's life. One, we take showers everyday and in the middle ages they rarely took showers/bathes. Today we have doctors that learn how to cure sicknesses and they learn about the human body, in the middle ages their doctors didn't study the human body so they didn't know how it worked and they didn't know how to cure diseases that's why the black death was so bad.

  14. There are many differences and similarities between life now and life in the medieval ages. Some differences are that back then, illnesses were more dangerous than they would be now. We have wonderful doctors that know what medicine to use to cure certain sicknesses. Also, now we have soap, showers and fancier baths to help us keep sanitary and back then, they had baths but didn't really shower often so they were much dirtier even the rich. Some similarities are that they had classes just like us. There were the high ranked rich people, merchants and artisans in the middle class and farmers and poor in the lower class. We have the rich, the middle class and the poor. Another similarity would be that they had people sent to jail if they committed a crime. We also put people in jail if they break the law in any way.

  16. - There are many types of differences and similarities between life in the Middle Ages and in life today. Some differences between life during the Middle Ages and life today is people who were living during the height of the Middle Ages were unable to explain how or why humans became infected by diseases nor did they own the medical knowledge to cure certain types of diseases. Also, those who were living during the Middle Ages never really had good personal hygiene as we do today. During the Middle Ages people would usually bath themselves only once a month. This caused people to have bad odor in themselves and even in their clothing as well. Also, whenever a person had done a type of manual labor or had engulfed one of their daily meals, they would never wash their hands afterwards. Also, whenever a person was going to devour a meal, instead of using dining utensils, they would just use their hands to engulf their meal. Another one is, whenever a person devoured a piece of their meal such as a chicken leg or anything else similar to this, they would just throw the bones onto their stone or wooden surface instead of placing them in a trash can.(Which they never had or even thought about having in those days). Also, whenever the air or house temperature became warm, people would sweep up all of the trash on their surfaces and sweep it all out their doors, eventually reaching the streets themselves. These careless actions would soon lead to one of the most fearful time periods in Medieval history, the Bubonic plague, also known as the Black Death. The Black Death was a deadly disease which caused one/third of Europe's population to drop. This would last from 1348 A.D.-1350 A.D. The Bubonic plague usually spreads from either an animal or an insect. Another one is, during the Middle Ages a king could punish anyone he wanted to, punish anyone who was caught breaking the law, and best of all he could tax the people as much as he wished to. Last but not least everyone was accountable to the law such as townspeople (who were the citizens of either a kingdom or a village) which were all, except for the king. Some similarities between life during the Middle Ages and life today is for instance, famous individuals such as film - actors usually become engaged with other film - actresses. This is also normal for the wealthy members of society. Another one is, citizens such as the ones of this country still continue to be taxed by our government even in today's modern society. And last but not least leaders of other nations are also held accountable for the law as everyone else is. And these were some differences and similarities between life during the Middle Ages and life today.
