Fighting in the Revolution-7th grade

Based on what we have learned so far about the Revolution, would you have been willing to fight in this war? Think about the advantages/disadvantages of the Continental army vs.the British army, the reasons the colonists wanted to be free from British rule, etc. Try to include at least one WORD WALL word in your post!!

  1. Would I fight in the war? from what I know the war was brutal. There were many casualties on both sides. many soldiers lost their lives or limbs. If i was poor and my family needed money I would fight in the war just to keep food on the table for my family. But if I was wealthy I would donate money to the American army instead of fighting in the war. Either way i would try to help the Patriots win the war so that the colonists could be free from Eniglish rule.

  2. I wouldn't have to think that request over. The Continental army was essentially a bag of dirt compared to the Redcoats. But, freedom would be the top priority in my life. I would also be confident in General Washington's military patience and experience to protect me. To summarize, I most likely would have attempted joining the Continental Army to be a guerilla warrior.

  4. I would be willing to fight in the Revolutionary War. Also, I would be prepared and ready to face the harsh times in the war, such as the winter at Valley Forge. In addition, I would fight hard, knowing that France would lend the Continental Army munitions to attack the British. To add, in the Battle of Bunker Hill, I would fight alongside the brave men in this victory for the Americans. Furthermore, I would see the Revolutionary War until the end. Finally, I imagine how the war would turn out if there were no leaders to guide the Continental Army to freedom.

  5. Yes, I would like to fight for my country I would be in the New Jersey militia. I would love to crush the british and spill their cruel, evil blood. I would like to use a bayonet because I like fighting with close range weapons like sword and spears. I would fight in the trenches and destro those redcoats. I would like to fight for my country in any war.

  6. Yes, i would fight in the Revolutionary War. i would be able to get past the good and bad of it. Hard times like the winter with George Washington is what i am in for. the struggle but you still get to say that your a veteran. everyday no madder if i had sleep or not i would fight as hard as i could to see the Americans come out with a victory. With being in the war comes a lot of responsibilities which i am ready to lead up to.

  7. Yes I would fight in the Revolutionary War. From what I hear, it has both it's advantages as well as disadvantages. One of those disadvantages being that you could lose a limb or have a disease and have to get it amputated. However, you would get paid to do this. If my family needed the money, here was an opportunity. I would do it for the money and also for the fact I staunchly agree that the colonists should be freed from British rule. They have no right and yes, I would be willing to lose a limb for these rights to be given back because I know others would do the same for me.

  8. From what I know about the Revolutionary War, I would not fight in it. It is too dangerous and I would not risk my life. But if I really had to, and it was my only choice left to get money and pay for food, I would fight. But if I didn't need to fight, I wouldn't. The fight was really bad and a lot of people died on both sides. I don't want to risk my life if I don't have to.

  10. From what I know I would not fight in the revolutionary war, it had bad living conditions not enough supplies to win and all odds were against us. It was gory and a lot of people died those are reasons that i would not fight.

Would I joing the war? Well, honestly if it was up to me....I wouldn't. I'am all for my country but, from what knowledge ii have from those wars, is that they were insane. I totallly agree with Shannon 100%, i'm aware that Deborah Sampson dressed as a soldier to fight but...Well lets say I did become part of the war but i wouldn't enter as myself, i would have to enter as a man. If i got injured and became a casualty i couldn't have a doctor to tend to my injurues because then he would find out that i was a false gender. If i joined the war then then there would be alot of lying and secrets.

I would fighting revolutionary war if i have to. During revolutionary war soldiers doesn't have any freedom and i was sorry for the soldiers that were fighting in the revolutionary war and they don't had anything clean that they need clean. If i fight in the revolutionary war i would be a doctor because if anybody get injured i could make them perfect for the fight and its gonna be helpful for the soldiers that are fighting and it could help soldiers to win the war and have freedom.

  13. If I would have a choice to fight in the Rev War, I would.I'm willing to work with great leaders such as George Washington and Marquis de Lafeyette.I would risk my life for this. On thhe other hand, I would be getting paid to do this. This would help me and my family if the money was needed. In conclusion, I'm willing to fight in the Revolutionary war and serve for our country.

  14. Based on what I have learned about the Revolution I don't think I would fight in this war because of the way of a soldiers life. I understand that they fought for freedom but I wouldn't under their life style as a soldier. We could have had an advantage because we lived in the states and the British came from England.

  15. If I had the opportunity to fight in the Revolutionary War against the British, I would definitely fight. I would be so furious at the British after all they have done to us, like taxing us for everything, that I would just have to fight them. And not even did they have a stronger army than us originally, they spent so much more money for German soldiers to fight us, who were called Hessians. This would make me so angry that I would try to kill many British (and German) soldiers with bayonets, just because they were spending their money just to annoy us. I wonder what would have happened if I fought in the war.

  16. Based on what I have learned about the revolutionary war I would not have fought in it. I say this because us colonists had little munitions and were lucky. I mean our general Washington was lucky he lead us to victory. Also, if I had to not shower or brush my teeth that would be disgusting. In addition, the redcoats had a better army and more stratigized way of fighting. They were one if not the best army in that time. All of the redcoats used bayonets while we were lucky if someone were able to smuggle one. Again, I would not have wanted to fight in this war.

  17. From what i have learned about the revolutionary war, i would totally fight for my country. Though i might suffer excruciating pain, and probably die, it would be worth it. I would have helped my small country fight a big war, and we would need all the help we can get! By not joining the war, i would just be another reason why we should just give up. Therefore, if i could join the war, i would do it.

  18. From what I have learned so far about the Revolution, I would not be able to decide whether or not to join the militia unless a war actually happened. This is because back then, no one had the technology we have today. For example, it took about thirty seconds for an American OR British musket to reload. It only takes a split second to be shot or stabbed with a weapon, so it is even more risky then today! Also, think of the things you had to wear and eat and clean yourself with. Some of the positive aspects of being in the militia in the Revolution is if you really believed in what you were fighting for, you would do anything, i mean Anything to win or in that case at least win your freedom. In conclusion, I cannot decide whether or not to have fought in the Revolution.

  19. From what i have learned about the revolution, i'd say I wouldn't join. It would be to risky. You could die from a gun shot, a wound, starvation, frezing to death! Besides, the British army was well trained. We were just farmers out in uniforms, got guns and went to fight. Also the conditions were brutal. The weather was cold, you slept in a small tent with like six other people, you barley washed your cloths or yourself and other poor acts hyigen.

  20. Based on what I learned about the Revolutionary War, no I wouldn't be willing to fight in this War. I wouldn't want to join the War because you could go to the War without knowing, if your going to come back. Therefore, I think it would be too dangerous. Also, going to the war it would be really cold especially if it was winter. In addition, you could die from starvation, a gun shot, illness, infection, and hypothermia. So yeah, I wouldn't want to join The Revolutionary War.

  21. Would I fight in the war? No, because based on what I've learned about the revolutionary war, this war was brutal and it would be risky since you don't know what you are getting yourself into. I wouldn't want to be killed by an illness, infection, a gunshot, etc. It would be very risky to join because of the conditions that these soldiers were living in. Also, it's just downright dangerous.

  22. Learning about the revolutionary war from what i learned no i would not fight in it. I would not fight in this because it is dangerous and it is so much eaiser to be killed. You could be shot, or murdered any minute in there. Where when your not in there you could be from a sickness but that would kill you slower then in this war. It would be very risky, and the conditions were horrible to live in.

  23. Whould I fight in The Revolutionary War. I would rather not beacuse or the harsh conditions they had to go through. Knowing about this war the soljers had terrible living conditions. There was terrible moldy food, dirty water, no soap, some didnt even have shoes. Besides that they fought the germans and Hesstians because the Germans bought Mercinary for this war. So they had many armed Germans and the Americans had to find there own guns. We were very unprepared.

  24. I would not fight in army. To dangerous. It seemed like a really ruff time for them. I wouldnt want to be killed & I would probanly have trouble with the guns. There was barely any food, no hygiene, bare feet. Not my kind of thing. Who knows what could have happened while fighting. I wouldnt want to leave all my friends and family even if it meant defending my country.

I agree with both Shannon and Megan about being in the war too, because they are right about how you can become part of the war. Plus since I'm a girl. 29. After learning about the Revolutionary War I would not fight. Having to be ready in one minute like a minutemen is not enough time psychology to get ready. Also, supplies were low and the conditions were horrible. I think if soldiers had more of a choice to choose to fight long ago then we would have lost the war.

  30. I would fight in the war. We deserved freedom from the British, no matter how bad the conditions. I would fight for my country, and cause. But if i was with the Patriots fighting, i would be proud to be fighting for my people.

  31. Now that I know what happened in the war and how the soldiers lived I would not want to fight in the war. The way they lived does not appeal to me. If they had an injury they had to get their body part amputated. The only reason that I would consider fighting is the soldiers got paid, and a lot of people in the colonial time did not have money to support their family. Also, fighting against Hessians and British, some of the best armies in the world would concern me. I do agree that America deserved to be free from England. They were cruel and unfair to them, so I would support the war in anyway possible, if that meant I had to fight I would have. However, I wouldn't WANT to fight in the Revolutionary War.

  32. If I lived during the time of the revolution I definitely would not be in the war. The living conditions were horrible, it was dangerous, you barely got paid, and you would’ve had to kill people, which would be awful. If I lived in 1770’s I would support my country by not drinking tea or making a spinning bee, like in the Mission U.S. game. I would try to avoid violence as much as I could and support the patriots in other ways.

  33. In my opinion, I would choose to fight for the Continental Army because I believe the colonists should be free. Although at first the army was basically a militia but was as professional as the British army after Baron von Steuben turned it around acting as a drillmaster. Additionally, the winters were tough like the Winter at Valley Forge where soldiers were exposed to frostbite. Also, the personal hygiene was horrific because never used deodorant and didn't bath daily. However, I would be angered with the British for hiring Hessians and treating the colonists poorly. I would be able to sacrifice the comforts of a normal life if it means a free America.

  34. Would I want to fight in the war? No i wouldn't. I mean i would love to defend our country in a way that i would be named a hero, but I am a girl, and wouldn't want to get caught. 35. If I lived during the 1770s I would not fight in the war. I wouldn't fight in the war because the conditions were horrible and the pay even for then was low. Also, I wouldn't know if I would ever see my family again because of the large amount of casualties. However, some people didn't have a choice whether they wanted to fight or not. So, if I had a choice on what general or captain trained and lead us it would be Baron von Stueben because he took great care of his soldiers and had respect for them. Overall, I wouldn't fight in the war.

  36. Considering how bad the Continental Army's living circumstances were, I would not have fought in the Revolutionary War. The Continental Army had horrible hygiene issues! For one, they brushed their teeth about once every two weeks, and when they did, they used fur from animals rather than bristles. Also, they only bathed about every two weeks, let alone wash their hands or use deodorant. Just thinking about it grosses me out! Another reason I would not want to be in the Continental Army is because I would be risking my life for no pay. Not only that, but I would also have to pay for my own weapons! I can predict that many people just donated money to the army instead of fighting for it because they feel the same way that I do.

I would probably either be a patriot or be neutral in the Revolutionary war. This is because I would be furious that King George is taxing us from England, but after reading about the soldier's life, I wouldn't be thrilled to be living like a pig. I would take some part in it, though, even if I'm not fighting in the war.
